Review of the Leatherman Wave Multi Tool

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Here is a short review of the Leatherman Wave Multi Tool.

The Wave is the first Leatherman to include access to the blades from the outside without having to open the pliers. The blades can also be opened with one hand, which is another first. I have to say that the Wave is one of, if not the best multi tool on the market. It is the result of years of design and perfection of the Leatherman product line. It is hands down the most popular Leatherman and there is no question as to why.

Here is a list of all of the tools included in the Leatherman Wave Multi Tool:

Needlenose Pliers
Regular Pliers
Wire Cutters
Hard-wire Cutters
Wire Stripper
420HC Clip Point Knife
420HC Sheepsfoot Serrated Knife
Wood/Metal File
Diamond-coated File
Large Screwdriver
Large Bit Driver
Small Bit Driver
Bottle Opener
Can Opener
8 in | 19 cm Ruler
INCLUDED BITS: Phillips and Flat Tip Eyeglasses Screwdriver Bit, Phillips #1-2 and 3/16″ Bit

As far as dimensions, the Wave is 4in or 10cm when closed. It weighs 8.5 oz or 241 g. The blades are 2.9 in or 7.37 cm in length. My conclusion is that it is big enough to get the job done, but small enough to not be a hindrance when carrying it around with you.

In addition to all of these tools there are a few other features worth mentioning. First the Leatherman Wave Multi Tool comes with a 25 year warranty. This warranty covers any damage to the tool. This kind of warranty is a testament to the quality of Leatherman products.

Another feature of the Wave worth mentioning is that it has all locking blades and tools. What this means is that, for every tool on the Wave, if a tool or blade is in use you will be able to lock it in place. This comes in very handy for what ever you are using the Wave for. From using the scissors to the knives, being able to lock your tools in place is extremely valuable.

The Wave also comes with a leather or nylon Sheath. This is very useful when you want to take your Leatherman with you. The sheath includes a place to thread your belt through. The sheath also includes pockets to store your bit sets. My Leatherman came with a leather sheath and I was able to use to it carry my Wave on my belt very easily.

In conclusion, this stainless steel multi tool is an amazing gadget to own. It is very versatile and can handle any task from cutting paper to cutting and filing metal. It is also extremely well built with all locking blades and knives that can to opened with one hand from the outside. Last but not least it is very portable. With the sheath it is easy to take the Leatherman Wave with you whether you are on the job, doing a home project, or just being prepared.

I would highly recommend this tool, I use it my self. I’m glad I finally bought one and learned what all the fuss was about this highly popular product.
